President, Secretary, Treasurer's coffee morning

Our representatives attended this morning - I hope they found it useful. I hope they'll agree the coffee and cakes were good. Generally it is what you learn from other WIs which is most helpful and there were a few chuckles en route!! Carole, County Chairman was also present - which was a good opportunity for many to meet her and Marianne showed items available on the trading stall and talked about the sale/return parcels available. A few 'queries' were aired and hopefully sorted to most peoples satisfaction. Requests for more meetings in the north of the county were discussed and Carole was keen to take this on board. Hall problems abound with parking an issue and also existing bookings including pre-schools and exercise classes.

There was a good atmosphere in the hall, although it did get a bit chilly towards the end and some people enjoyed a second cup of coffee to warm them up before they headed home.

January Meeting - the Bishops Palace Gardens, Wells

Great attendance - delighted to see so many on a fairly miserable night - plus the bonus of at least 4 visitors - we had to go and look for more chairs!! The speaker told us a little of the history of the Bishops Palace and lots about the development of the gardens there. Interestingly, he and his family live 'on site' in a cold flat at the top of the Palace - how interesting - I wonder if it is a bit spooky when you go home at night?

Helen and Doreen (our new President and Secretary) ran an excellent meeting and Ruth read two of her most amusing poems.
Having received an email appeal for Mary's Meals in Haiti - a voluntary collection was held - the money collected will be sent off by a member.

Cancellations due to snow

8th Jan - committee meeting at Helen's home AND as snow is forecast for Sunday evening 11th Jan - Book Club and Mahjong at Iris's home

Committee could be anytime maybe next week - one afternoon (Wed & Fri) best choice BUT could be 1/2 hr before Jan meeting on 19th - we are totally dependant on road conditions. All in favour of afternoon - apart from Anne who works and Iris (transport) - but no doubt something can be arranged if weather improves sufficiently!

Rumour says some older members will not be rejoining this year, perhaps because they don't like going out at night!! We will wait and see what the next meeting brings and will learn more then!!

6th January - overnight snow

The Christmas tree by the children's log cabin. Wind getting up this afternoon so whirling snow past the window as I type!!

We woke up to a 'pretty' covering of snow - got the Christmas tree out just in time - it looks lovely in the garden!! Everything is being cancelled - time to stay at home by the fire and perhaps make some cards!!

Happy New Year to all

Happy New Year - well we have plenty of frost and crisp days at present. A good time to sit around the fire!! Evidently the cold weather will stretch on into January. John N has confirmed that it should last for at least another fortnight!! We've had a couple of lovely sunny days since New Year (hard frost at night though).
